Economist or Industry Analyst


Salary range c. £37K - £40K, depending on skills and experience


Seafish is a UK public body which delivers a broad range of services and projects to the seafood industry and governments.  This is an opportunity for an experienced economist or analyst to contribute to the economic research and advice programme which informs all elements of the seafood industry, UK governments and the EU.  The post requires modelling and data analysis and frequent liaison with industry and government.


This is an exciting opportunity to develop industry-specific expertise and to build up profile with the seafood industry and government through conducting research, giving advice and presenting research findings.  You will work closely with members of industry in every type of seafood business, but with emphasis on the fishing fleet and seafood processing sectors.  Our involvement in research and analysis for the European Commission is increasing and work throughout the EU will be required.


The post is based in our Edinburgh office.  Travel throughout the UK, Europe and occasionally world wide will be required. Driving licence required.


The Candidate :

- First degree in economics, business, accounting or other numerate degree.

- An MBA or post graduate degree in economics or similar subject.

- Skilled at handling large data sets and creating or developing simulation models for forecasting and impact assessments.

- High standard of project management, research design, primary data collection, statistical data analysis, report writing.

- Confident at preparing and delivering presentations to external audiences.

- Professional experience of the seafood industry or natural resource economics would be an advantage.

- High standard of communication skills, written and oral.

- Use of software for project planning, financial and statistical analysis, economic modelling and presentations.  Knowledge and experience of econometric software would be an advantage.
