AKTEA CONFERENCE
*Sines, Portugal, Conference - October 2009

From 27 to 31 October 2009, around fifty women from 7 different European countries participated in the 4th AKTEA conference in Sines (Portugal). During this conference, AKTEA delegates prepared the response of the network to the EU Green Paper “Reform of the Common Fisheries Policy” which was available for comment by European stakeholders : EN / FR (pdf).

The network underlined the fact that the word “woman” is not mentioned once in this document, even though many women are involving in family fisheries enterprises.

The conference was held in Sines to coincide with a conference celebrating the ‘Coastal Culture Project’, promoted by the Mútua dos Pescadores and co-financed by the Municipality of Sines.

Members of AKTEA visited the fisheries community of Carrasqueira, where they met the Portuguese network of fisher women “Estrela do Mar”. Many thanks to everyone who contributed to the organisation of our own conference.

Two associations of the AKTEA network prepared also an answer to the UE Green Book :

-> Associação de Mulheres da Pesca dos Açores (in portuguese only): pdf
-> Fédération des Femmes du Milieu Maritime (2FM), France (in french only): pdf
